Hubby and I have been here numerous times and it's our Get away from reality of healthy food when we arrive the first thing they say is the bread is coming out of the oven just for you they make us feel so good inside the food is delicious way better than the one in Dunkirk we are lifelong customers I really recommend coming here and avoiding Dunkirk at all costs the bread here is way better bigger and more delicious and the staff is more professional I will never go to Dunkirk ever again this place is top quality

I was so disappointed with the service, customer care and quality. First, the waitstaff is ill prepared to serve customers. We went sting restaurant week and the server had no clue what was included or how to take the order even though the special menu was on table and we showed him. When we asked about a specific wine his response was "I wouldn't know" - later we found out that he wasn't 21 And couldn't drink - but a waiter should be able to answer questions. Our soups came out then literally 30 seconds later out appetizers came out. The crab soup was very tasty (only reason I am giving two stars). Then ... I pulled a long thin piece of plastic mesh from my soup (the kind that wraps vegetables or shellfish). I asked for the manager and she looked at me like I planted it and I had to explain - gave me a while $6 off the bill. The main dish was fine and then we ordered Tiramisu. It was vanilla pudding, with lady fingers, topped with Hershey syrup. At that point it was laughable how bad the overall experience was especially considering the good reviews.

Came for lunch. Great service. Seems like a lot of locals come here because they know several of the customers by name. I had the special, stuffed chicken with mushrooms and Angel hair pasta. Chicken was rubbery but tasty. The mushrooms were canned and not fresh. The bread was hot and delicious.

Great food, great service! We went there and the restaurant was almost completely full, but the waitress was attentive, the drinks and salads came fast and the food was awesome!

Not sure why people like this place. Aside from being pedestrian at best, the recipes are no more Italian than Chef Boyardee's! That is not an "Italian Cold Cut", either!

Delish pizza, pasta and bread. We've eaten here several times now. Portions are large, prices are average. Service is good. Friendly atmosphere. On weekends, get there early because it's very busy here.

Stopped for lunch on Friday, April 30. Found the prices to be very reasonable (less than $10) and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and the food was excellent. I had the lasagna, and it was delicious. Out of the way for most DC foodies, and I know that there are other locations but this was the 1st Mamma Lucia's I have been to. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Really lousy. I came here with my parents a few weeks ago. Like one reviewer said, the young staff definitely comes across badly. The young waitress was visably annoyed that my parents -- who are in their 70s -- had trouble hearing her. When my father asked her to repeat the salad dressings, you could see the girl tense up. Seriously, wtf? The food was bad. We all agreed that the calamari was bland and rubbery. I got the gnocchi in meat sauce and it was terrible. My mom tasted it and said it tasted like Chef Boyardee. The only positive was the big glass of wine -- much larger glass than other restaurants serve. So thanks for the wine, but please make better food!

We both loved the salads that came with the meal. However, the pasta was not worth it for the price. The food was not bad but for the money they ask it's not worth it.

I've been going here with friends roughly every other month or so for the last few years. The food has consistently been good and I've never had any bad experiences with my meals or the waitstaff (who are friendly, but very young -- and sometimes come across as being a bit arrogant or snobby). Get the calamari! It's delicious and is always cooked to perfection. Their pizza is good, too. As is their crab soup. And the spaghetti carbonara. I mean, everything is good, but those are my go-to dishes and they never disappoint!

The best Italian in Calvert County, overall not too bad. 5 stars for service, everyone has always been courteous and nice, checking up regularly to see how the meal is. I had calamari for an appetizer, and the portion size is great! Not much seasoning/flavor though so kind of bland, but there are nice sizable pieces of squid, so definitely worth it as an appetizer. For my entree I had the Shrimp fra Diavolo. This was rather disappointing, the shrimp was big but could tell it had been frozen and was kind of old, overwhelming amount of marinara sauce drowned out the pasta. Dessert I had the napoleon. Again, portion size is great, making it well worth it. Very creamy on the inside and bonus points for presentation.

Horrible service. After waiting an hour since we ordered we asked a hostess if she could find out what was going on with our food. After waiting another 5 min without hearing back from the hostess we decided to just leave. On the way out we told one of the other hostesses that we had waited an hour after ordering and hadnt gotten our food so we were leaving - her response was only "sorry" and nothing else. Wont be going back.

Pasta and pizza remind me of a great eatery place in Tuscany Italy... The food and service is amazing.. I talk about how great the food is with all my fiends looking for a place to eat nearby.

I moved down here from Boston where Italian food is among the best on the country. I searched DC for something comparable, but never found a place that was even close. Imagine my surprise when I found that spot in the suburbs. Mama Lucia's has a great atmosphere and welcoming staff. People come for the pizza which is good. I prefer the Calamari for an appetizer, the veal Marsala or cartocicp. There are two locations, but this one has the best Italian food in all southern MD. Worth the trip.

I was unimpressed with the quality of the food after hearing so many positive things from the local people. I asked the waitress if the calamari was fresh and she said nothing is fresh here, but it tastes good. It was food but I wouldn't bring a friend there. I have no desire to give it a second try.

Ordered bottle of wine. Server brought over bottle unopened and put it in center of table with 2 glasses. And walked away unpoured. Wow. I know it's Southern Maryland with little training. Also, we ordered the Veal Marsala. It was more like Veal Marinara and watery pieces of tomato on the side pasta. The ambience was stale and lackluster. Never again.

Solid Italian eatery the three times we've been (well, my girlfriend's been once and together we've been twice). She really likes it and would probably grant four stars but I'm a little more grounded. I've had the Sausage Roll and now the Tortellini Alla Panna (though I had switched from a cream based to a marinara sauce), as well as the included Italian bread and Garlic bread with Cheese. The Sausage Roll needed a few minutes more under their broiler but the Tortellini needed a few minutes less on the stove. Their marinara is thicker and really good; I find it needs some chili flakes but that's just me. A few words about the price and building. The entrée pricing is largely very reasonable. Salads and some of the appetizers are pricy compared to the entrée pricing. No comments on dessert or drink pricing as I've had neither. The space is enormous. It's the end unit of a strip mall type deal. It could easily be two decent sized restaurants if split in the middle of the depth. There are two banquet areas - one larger and one smaller. It's a testament that there's a party of thirty highschoolers and a separate birthday party of twenty little kids and the place still feels empty. Not a big fan of the music selection though.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
